West Woodburn
West Woodburn
West Woodburn is a village within north western Northumberland, England. The village lies within the Rede Valley and is almost equidistant of the Scottish border and the market town of Hexham. Flowing through the village is the River Rede which feeds into the North River Tyne. It is thought that during the Battle of Otterburn (the main village in Redesdale), the fallen dead stained the waters of the River Red with their blood, and that is where the river’s name is derived. Roman occupation is also evident, the village lies on the line of Dere Street, a Roman Road and a Roman milestone can be found at The Bay Horse Inn in West Woodburn.
